On a hot June day I got an early start to go up to the Roche Lake area, then onto the Bleeker Lake Forest Service Road. I parked at the Rec Site on the lake and launched my kayak. I paddled the whole lake, going around the lakeshore in a 4.5 km counter-clockwise loop. The lake has low water levels as a …Continue reading →
On a hot (36 C) day in June I drove to Monte Lake on Highway 97 South. I used the boat launch on the Monte Creek Forest Service Road on the north end of the lake. I paddled down the middle of the lake to the south end, then returned along the western shore back to the start, a 5.5 km route. There was …Continue reading →
On a sunny and warm weekend morning in June I drove through the community of Knouff Lake to the Rec Site on the western side of Sullivan Lake. I used one of the hand launch spots to paddle the lake. For this day, I chose to do a clockwise loop going north to the Resort, then south along the eastern side around the islands, then …Continue reading →
On the last day of May I launched my kayak into the lake from the Lac le Jeune Campground beach, and battled winds for a loop route on the west end of the lake. At times the winds gusted to 20 km/hr from the west. This was Day 28 for 2025.
On a day with windy conditions in the Interior, there was one direction where the winds were not forecast until later in the day and that was in the Paul Lake – Pinantan Lake area. I drove up to Pinantan Lake and launched from the end of Cridge Road and paddled to the marshy area on the northeast side of the lake. Blackbirds, marsh wrens, …Continue reading →
A 4.7 km paddle around Walloper Lake on a grey morning. No other boats on the lake, but I spotted great blue herons, an osprey, a killdeer, blackbirds, geese, and many ducks. Fish jumping for a new hatch. Very little wind and a quiet spot for a paddle. Day 22 for 2035.
It rained overnight, but started to clear by morning. I drove to Paul Lake and parked at the beach area below the campground. There were grey skies, but the winds were light. I launched my kayak and paddled east to the end of the lake. A hatch was on so fish were rising and swallows were swooping. At the marshy east end …Continue reading →
Time was short and my truck was in the process of being sold privately, so I went out early for a last paddle using the 2009 Toyota Tacoma to bring the kayak for a paddle on Edith Lake. There was no wind in town, but it was windy at the launch at Edith Lake. I headed into the wind, making slow progress for a …Continue reading →
As I cycle through a long list of paddling spots each season, I visit some lakes only once in the year, at the right time of year. Louis Lake is a marshy lake just off the Pinantan Road. Any access requires hauling the boat and hand launching on a muddy shoreline. The lake drops in summer and becomes too shallow at the west …Continue reading →
