Kayaking Bleeker Lake
On a hot June day I got an early start to go up to the Roche Lake area, then onto the Bleeker Lake Forest Service Road. I parked at the Rec Site on the lake and launched my kayak. I paddled the whole lake, going around the lakeshore in a 4.5 km counter-clockwise loop.
The lake has low water levels as a result of years of drought. Some of the bays were too shallow to paddle. Algae had already multiplied in the lake. By summer all the bays will be choked with aquatic growth. As a general rule I usually paddle this lake earlier in spring.
There were lots of ducks with ducklings and geese with goslings. A mother loon had a chick on her back. there were a couple of fishing boats, but conditions are no longer prime for catching fish so it will be a quieter spot in summer.
