Louis Lake
As I cycle through a long list of paddling spots each season, I visit some lakes only once in the year, at the right time of year. Louis Lake is a marshy lake just off the Pinantan Road. Any access requires hauling the boat and hand launching on a muddy shoreline. The lake drops in summer and becomes too shallow at the west end so the best time to paddle the lake is in spring.
A paddle around the shoreline in spring is about 4.2 km. The west end is shallow and aquatic vegetation fills the bay in summer. When I paddled there were lots of ducks, two loons, a few geese, and some blackbirds active. I could see evidence of muskrats in the muddy shallows. There was a hatch on the lake. Except for a few vehicles out on the road, all was quiet on a one hour morning paddle.
Louis Lake is not a regular spot for recreational kayaking, but for a small number of paddlers, it is one lake of about 50 in our area for a morning workout.
