The Waiting by Michael Connelly
The Waiting is the 39th book in the Harry Bosch World. I have read all of the books and this one was the latest. Most of the author’s books are police procedurals featuring Harry Bosch, but in recent years, he has added books in the Lincoln Lawyer series, and books featuring Renee Ballard and Maddie Bosch, his daughter. They are sequential, but stand-alone books so readers can pick up any one of the books for a good story.
This book follows Renee Ballard the detective in charge of the Open/Unsolved Unit, following past crimes, using modern forensic methods to track down culprits of past crimes. The central cases are in pursuit of a serial rapist and murderer, but another case leads to robberies and links to armed conspiracy/anarchist groups. Renee takes on Maddie Bosch as a part-timer and the two work the cases successfully. there are moments of suspense, lots of police-politics (as usual), and modern police/forensic information. As always, the book has good characters, even pacing, and intriguing stories.
All of the books are recommended – 4.5/5 stars
