The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
The Thursday Murder Club is a whodunit novel featuring a small group of seniors living in a retirement home who get together once a week to discuss unsolved crimes. Some members of the group have a police background. Others were professionals who bring skills to any enquiry. When murders occur in their area, they set to solve the mystery. This book is a cozy mystery, with known suspects and common histories, but with secrets. The police are also investigating, but the seniors are always ahead of them. The story is told with warmth, light humour, and likeable characters. The juxtapostion of violence and death, end of life moments, the lives of the elderly, and a traditional mystery are an odd mix, but for those who like mysteries, this is a pleasant book. On the other hand, the characters are not well-developed, there is little tension, and there are few clues to challenge the reader. Mystery-Lite. 3.9 out of 5.0 stars
