On a cold day in February, I hiked some trails in Valleyview Nature Park.  The trails were mostly dry and the sun was shining.    We can hike longer routes in season when the gully trails aren’t icy and snowy, but in winter the loops routes on the ridges are a better choice.

There were no other hikers, but there were a few dog walkers.   I had two encounters with dogs off leash, one of which nipped me, my third such incident this winter.   I haven’t yet resorted to using a dog spray, but that time may be here now.    Although I like dogs, I prefer to not be bitten by them.   My jacket has been torn twice from bites.   Owners are apologetic, but that doesn’t help much.   Mostly I try to hike in areas  not frequented by careless dog walkers.
