Hiking the Ironmask Hills
We hiked the Ironmask Trails from the upper trailhead in late November. Since this is a well-used mountain biking area, we return to hike the trails in shoulder season and when the snow falls since many of the trails are single tracks and they can be busy with riders. On this day, we met a couple of other hikers, but no bikes. We hiked a 7.4 km route around and over the hills.
We enjoyed the wide views from a series of viewpoints along our route, this one to the north.
My first hike/run into this area was in 1978 when the area still had some mining activity and there were no single track trails. In those earlier times, I followed the old double tracks and went cross-country to viewpoints, leaving nothing but faint footprints. A few images from our hike are provided here. The Pineview – Ironmask Trails are now closed for the winter. Check with the Kamloops Performance Cycling Center for updates.
