A Cold and Windy Sunset
On a cold and windy end-of-February day I hiked the west end of Kenna Cartwright Park. From the Pipeline at the end of Hillside Drive, a little-known trail bears west through the open forest. it is mainly used by dog walkers. It is a loop route on fairly level ground. If we follow it out to the fenceline, we can then follow a single track north toward the ridge. A single track climbs the southern slopes of the ridge following the gasline, to the top of the ridge, where it meets the Sunset Trail.
The sun would break through the grey clouds now and then from the top of the ridge. This view shows Sugarloaf Hill and Greenstone Mountain to the southwest.
From the end of the Sunset Trail we can enjoy views west, out towards Kamloops Lake.
Coming back along the Sunset Trail, Mt. Dufferin Ridge rose to the east.
I followed a series of trails in the park past a seasonal pond.
The route for this day then followed the Ponderosa Trail, and an unnamed route back to the start.
A few moments of the hike are captured in this short video:
