October 15 – Greenstone Bench Trail
I hiked the Bench Trail on Greenstone Mountain and was thoroughly delighted by the route and the conditions. One of my favorites for 2022. A post to be published about Oct. 30. A video before that. I have another route planned on the shoulder of Greenstone Mountain.

First I paddled Leighton Lake (in Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park), then I drove down the Tunkwa Lake Road and up into the Six Mile Hills and then paddled Morgan Lake. Day 86 of paddling in 2022.

Usually I prefer to read the book before seeing the movie or series. In this case we watched the series on Amazon Prime, based on the book by Liane Moriarty. She has also written some popular books like Big Little Lies, What Alice Forgot, and Truly Madly Guilty. We didn’t know what to expect but the preview looked interesting so … Continue reading →
Dino’s Dragon

Then, I watched the movie version of the book, Red Dragon, produced by Dino de Laurentiis. The screenplay took the main tale but added … Continue reading →
Shutter Shudder
I read Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and found it to be a superb story. Just recently we watched the 2010 movie, directed by Stanley Kubrik. It was a masterful movie, faithful to the book, and very satisfying. That is not to say it is an easy story to read or watch. Shutter Island stands on its own as a … Continue reading →
Not The Stand
Many years ago I read The Stand and it became my favorite Stephen King book. A few years ago I read the novel It, which is now my favorite, but The Stand remains a memorable book, one I would read again. I watched the 1994 TV Series but was disappointed. Recently Amazon Prime has aired a new version in 2020 … Continue reading →
Rusted Out
I read Sea of Rust by C.H. Cargill. It seemed to be a popular book and without doing any background work, I started in. The premise was interesting, a dystopian novel about future AI ‘bots, mostly told by a specialized robot. I did enjoy the opening section, but I stopped enjoying the book about midway through the book. Cliches started … Continue reading →
Shuggie Shakes
I have been reading (via audiobook) Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart. It won the Booker Prize for 2020 and had many great reviews. I have had to work hard to stick with it, though. I can see it is leading up to something powerful and rewarding, but I am finding it difficult. Initial difficulties started with the Scottish brogue (harder … Continue reading →
