I read Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and found it to be a superb story.     Just recently we watched the 2010 movie, directed by Stanley Kubrik.    It was a masterful movie, faithful to the book, and very satisfying.     That is not to say it is an easy story to read or watch.   Shutter Island stands on its own as a piece of art, unsettling, poignant, and visceral.
