We hiked up Mara Canyon from the trailhead (Ord Road West) in April, up into the hills, then down into the canyon, and up the drainage past the hoodoos, then up onto the east-side ridge. The route up the canyon requires some light scrambling past fallen trees, logs, washed out areas, and rocky terrain.
The trail is sometimes called the Hoodoos Trail and there are many to be seen along the route.
We continued up to the upper end of the canyon, then climbed a steep route up to the ridge. We hiked back down Cinnamon Ridge. As we hiked down, we enjoyed a ring around the sun due south.
There is much to see on this trail. All photos by the author, taken during that hiking day. Click an image for a lightbox view.
This was the second time through the canyon this spring. Our next venture into the area will be to the top of the mountain from the northeast side.
