Sandy (Tree) Island Provincial Park is located about 1 km north of Denman Island. It is a marine park, most often accessed by boat, but at low tide it is possible to hike over to the island.
The route is to drive to the north end of the island on The Point Road and to hike the signed trail to Morning Beach Park. A good trail and staircase leads down to the beach. The route required hiking for about 2 km on sandy, gravelly beaches to Longbeak Point, then across tidal flats to Sandy Island (called Tree Island by locals).
We hiked around the shoreline of Sandy Island, past marine campsites and along established trails. There are some rocky islets on the north side and views across Georgia Strait on the east side.
We hiked back before the tide came in, completing an 8 km hike.
