Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, and Mary
Puff the Magic Dragon is a folk song written by Peter Yarrow, based on a poem written by a Cornell student Leonard Lipton in 1959, which in turn was based on a poem by Ogden Nash (1936). Yarrow made the poem into a song and credited Lipton with co-writing the song.
Peter, Paul and Mary had success with the song when it was broadcast in 1963. and continued to perform the song in concerts. Other performers also recorded the song and it was adapted for TV.
I remember first hearing the song on the radio as an elementary student and then seeing it performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. It is part of my psyche now and I still enjoy hearing the song today.
