Three Wanders
I hike different trails and routes each day. The amount of time and energy I have limits the choice and the weather forecast adjusts all potential plans for destinations and route choices. Paddling season is over so it is time to shift to a list of shoulder season hikes. Three of the recent hikes are shared here.
When time is short, I can hike the outside loop, combining trail choices in the area off Bunker Road. The Sage Trail is the first one, but there are a number of intersections to navigate. The route I hike passes all the main viewpoints and loops on the benchlands, through the hills, and along the rim, all of which takes about an hour.
Some of the best viewpoints in the Kamloops Area are found along the hilltops overlooking the valley.
On a day with more time and mild weather I started at Rose Hill Park and followed tracks and trails through and around Joyce Gulch, including some routes over toward Tower Hill, overlooking Peterson Creek.
All was quiet in the hills on this 2 hour loop route.
On a drizzly morning with rain forecast for much of the day, I got a morning start at Valley Nature Park.
There are a number of routes to choose from, but I chose a loop route which took about an hour. The Rim Trail has great views east, west, and north.
There were some dog walkers on the trails, but it was a quiet morning on the trails. I was surprised to spot a bluebird in one of the gully trails. Bluebirds migrate south in the fall before the end of November.
There are many trails and routes ready to be hiked in shoulder season. Some of these hikes will be shared on this website or on Kamloops Trails.
