Kayaking Glimpse Lake
Glimpse Lake is located on the Douglas Lake Plateau. To get to the lake, turn onto the Douglas Lake Road from Nicola Lake and 7 km up the road, turn left onto the Lauder Road. The community, a public boat launch, and two Rec Sites are on the lake 15 kms farther. I use the public launch at the northwest side of the lake for launching a kayak.

The launch area has lots of room for boats and for parking. The shore area is shallow, but gravelly by the launch.

The weather was stormy and rainy in Kamloops, but the forecast for the Nicola Lake area was calmer and drier, so I drove south on Highway 5A. the winds were light and even though the skies were ominous, the conditions were fine for a 5 km paddle around the perimeter of the lake.

A large osprey was chasing bald eagles from the fishing grounds. Loons sounded the call whenever eagles were flying. A great blue heron was wading in the shallows. Ducks were flocked near the shoreline, wary of predators. A few birds were singing in the trees as I covered the 5 km loop in an hour.
Glimpse Lake is a favorite summer paddling destination, best done on a weekday morning.
