Return to Sender by Craig Johnson
Return to Sender is the 21st book in the Walt Longmire series by Craig Johnson. This novel is another entertaining yarn, on par with the other books in the series. Having now read 20 of the books, I value the Longmire stories as a whole. Return to Sender is set in the Red Desert in Wyoming with Walt doing an investigation for a family member. He finds a cult that swindles its members and disposes of them after their money is gone. In the end, there are some bodies in the desert, but Walt manages to rescue a group of older followers, a hostage, and a baby. There are times in all of the books when Walt seems to be a mythical character, rising from a quiet western lawman to heroic status. In each new book, the author does not try to reach literary innovation, in-depth characterization, or intricate plots. They remain good stories, though, and Walt is welcome at any time.
The whole series is recommended – 4.4/5 stars.
