At the end of August I paddled Roche Lake on a calm and partly sunny day.    It was quiet on the lake, far different from prime fishing season.    This was my 71st day of kayaking in 2026, and the second time on the lake this season.   As I was paddling back toward the boat launch, a trout leaped out of the water in front of the boat.    I had a close look at the fish as it went through an arc which peaked over my head.    After securing the boat, I hiked over to Black Lake on a rough backroad.    All was quiet at this beautiful lake.    On the way back, I parked and walked in to Tulip Lake.    It is a shallow aerated lake, designated as an angling lake for kids and seniors.    It has a dock with rails, a peaceful spot (more information) to look out over the small lake.
