Around Edith Lake
In mid-February it snowed overnight, but on the day of the hike, it was a sunny and cool morning. The goal was to hike around Edith Lake. I followed a trail around the north side of the lake. During cattle grazing season these gates are closed to keep cattle in and people out. On this day, I was breaking trail right around to the east side of the lake. I could have gone around the hill, but for this day I chose to go over the hill for the views. I came down a steep slope to the south end of Edith Lake, then walked on the ice around the shoreline right back to the start.

There were some coyote tracks, but they were not in sight for this hike; there were only a few birds on the hike around the lake.

The first third of the hike followed a track just above the lake, the second third climbed over the hills and down to the south end with no tracks or trails. The last third was a hike on the snow and ice on the lake, following the lakeshore, winding around back to the boat launch where I started. The hike was 3.5 km, taking about 1.25 hours.
It was a sunny winter day, perfect for a hike in a scenic spot. Photos are shared here in a Google Photos album (with captions) – Around Edith Lake
Embedded here is a slideshow version of the album (without captions):
I am hoping to get another day of hiking in this area later this month.
