Dewdrop Ridge Basalt Bluffs
The hike up to and along Dewdrop Ridge is a favorite route. We can go cross-country or we can wind our way up on single and old double tracks. Another more adventurous route is to go up and over Dewdrop Range, then scramble down to the base of the long line of basalt bluffs, then traverse to the west on a steep dirt and scree slope. From there, we can go up to the ridge or drop down to a lower ridge, and then loop back.
On a foggy March day, I hiked over the ridge with the fog shrouding the area.
I scrambled down to the bottom of the cliffs, then started the traverse under the columns.
The fog lifted below offering views of the Thompson River Estuary and Cooney Bay.
Coming back over the ridge, a small herd of bighorn sheep kept an eye on me.
For anyone willing to scramble steep slopes, there are a number of route options, providing several days of exploration for the adventurous at heart.
