Isobel Hills Routes
On a summer morning I chose to explore some old tracks and some newer trails on the south and southeast side of Isobel Lake. Some of these were used by ranchers and may have been occasionally used by cross country skiers, but in more recent years by Fat Tire Bikers and snowshoers. In addition to the tracks and trails shown here, there are some single tracks heading off across, up, or down area hills. Some of these connect to the McQueen Creek Road and some to the Dairy Creek backroads. For this day I explored a series of trails, mostly out-and-back a few times.

I started at the bottom of an old double track bearing southeast from the lake. Off this old road, there are a number of newer tracks which could be combined for a loop route.

Although I went over some hills the whole area was forested with a few open glades. there were no viewpoints, though I know there is a view tower on top of the Eagle’s Eyrie Lookout on the hill to the west.

I will be back to hike the rest of the trails in the area and I will have established a loop route for a future snowshoer or hike next year. Many of the routes that I hike each year were done this way – a day or two of scouting to check out possible routes. There are more areas for exploration each year.
