Juniper Ridge Conservation Area Hike
On a cool March morning the destination for the day’s hike was Juniper Ridge Conservation Area, a new BC Parks Foundation Project. We have been hiking across this area for decades. There has been a double track called Scott Road which goes east for 3.6 km to locked gate. Just before the that gate, a downhill mountain bike route called the Rio Escondido has been used for a number of years. Hikers, dog-walkers, bird watchers, and explorers have gone across the tracks through the grasslands too, and now it is a designated park. There is now a gate near the start and no motorized traffic is allowed within the Conservation Area.

Most of the track was covered in a bit of snow, but it was easy hiking along the relatively level track.

For this day, I chose to add a loop route, winding down the slopes into open douglas fir forest, then steeply back up again. The hike was 5.5 km taking about 1.6 hours.
Photos from the hike (with captions) are shared here in a Google Photos album – Juniper Ridge Conservation Area Hike
A slideshow of these photos is also provided.
I plan to hike this again once spring growth gets fully underway in the weeks ahead.
