Kayaking Harper Lake
On a summer morning I drove up the bumpy Harper Lake Road to a small Rec Site on the northeast corner of the lake. It was a weekend and the Rec Site was full so I parked off the road and hand launched my kayak into the lake.
Harper Lake is located in the hills to the southwest of Chase. Take the Chase Creek Road turnoff and turn right onto the Harper Lake Road. The first part is a good gravel road, though it is narrow as it climbs into the hills. At a signed junction, take the right fork. It is a potholed and muddy road best for high clearance vehicles.

I have paddled this lake each summer and in most years there is no one else on the lake.

A paddle around the lake takes about an hour. It is a backcountry spot with no homes, cabins, or facilities, except for the small Rec Site.

I paddled into all the bays and marshy areas, completing about 3.2 km around the lake. On other days i have gone around the lake twice, once in each direction, but in the heat, once was enough for me this time.

I like Harper Lake and I plan to return there again next year.
