Kayaking Pillar Lake
Pillar Lake is a long and narrow lake which lies in a valley between Falkland and Chase. Most of the Falkland – Chase Road is paved. There is a small day-use Rec Site on the lake with lake access, a boat launch, and adequate parking. Pillar Lake Resort is located on the east shore above the lake. The rest of the lake is surrounded by forest and marshlands. On a sunny weekday morning I arrived early to paddle the lake.

I paddled counter-clockwise around the shoreline of the lake, a 4.75 km effort in calm conditions.

The Rec Site is also the parking area for the short hike to the Pillar, a 90 foot rock feature with a 8 ton boulder on top. In some years I have paddled the lake, then hiked the trail, but on this hot day, I chose to explore the Chase Creek Road going north instead. There are many side roads to explore. I have explored the Six Mile Road, the Paxton Valley, the Bolean Creek Road, and the Skimikin Road and there are other roads still to investigate.

Pillar Lake is a spot I try to visit every summer so I will be back again next year.
