McQueen to Isobel Hike
On a mid-July morning I hiked a trail I have done quite a few times from McQueen Lake to Isobel Lake. this was once called the Forest Capital Trail, and interpretive route with a series of numbered signs with a printed guide available to McQueen Lake students and others. The trail starts 0.25 km past the road into the McQueen Lake Center. It angles up the slope through open forests, going all the way to Isobel Lake. I usually hike around the lake and return back on the same trail, but for this day I wanted to find a route around the big marsh on the west side of the lake, looping back using fat tire bike trails.

The first 2 km is on single tracks (with some wider sections) to Isobel Lake.

I started to go around Isobel Lake in a clockwise direction, passing the east end of the large marsh.

On the around-Isobel-Trail I went through a gate, then turned onto a faint track that followed the fenceline. After about 100m, there was another gate which provided access to a fat tire bike trail around the marsh.

This brought me back to the Forest Capital Trail. About 100 m west, I turned onto a different fat tire bike trail (Down Draught) which wound through the forest for about one kilometer. Although most of the trail sections were obvious, neither of the bike trails were signed, nor flagged, so hikers have to watch for the trail route at times.

I arrived at the Isobel Lake Road and hiked back on the side of the road for 2/3 of a kilometer to where I had parked, a total of about 4.5 km, taking about 90 minutes. There are other route options so next time I will try a different loop route.
