Mount Warburton Pike
We stayed on Saturna Island one spring and hiked all the trails we could while there. Sections of Saturna Island are part of the Gulf Islands National Park Preserve. Parts of Mount Warburton Pike are in the park too. We drove up the narrow and steep road (Harris Road > Staples Road) to the upper parking lot to the trailhead on Brown Ridge. The main trail along the ridge runs west – east on top of bluffs overlooking Plumper Sound and across to South Pender Island. At the southeast end we had views to Boundary Pass and to the San Juan Islands.

We hiked along the ridge to the end of the ridge and down a bit before returning back along the ridge, then we explored the ridge the other way. We spotted a herd of wild goats at one end. Overall, this is not a long or a difficult hike, but it is very scenic and rewarding.
We have hiked trails on Saturna, Mayne, Galiano, Salt Spring, Denman, Bowen, North and South Pender Islands, Jedediah, Wallace, Cortes, and Hornby Island. We have used the guide by Charles Kahn, Hiking the Gulf Islands on these trips.
Some images from our last hike on Mount Warburton Pike are embedded in a slideshow here Click the link to go to the Google Photos album.
We have hiked dozens of trails on the Gulf Islands and some will be featured on this website. We hope to base camp to hike, paddle and explore routes on more of the Gulf Islands (Gabriola and Quadra, for sure).
