Naked Pistol Loop
Near the end of November the snows had not yet fallen and the trails were still relatively dry and with some business on the North Shore later in the day, I chose to hike trails in the Batchelor Hills. From the main trailhead, I parked then picked a loop route – up the Tower Classic Trail into the pass between the hills, then along and down the Naked Pistol Trail, looping back on the Shady Glen Trail. This was a 4.7 km route taking about 1.25 hours.

The lower end of Lac du Bois Grasslands Provincial Park is mostly treeless and the rolling hills are covered with bunchgrasses, sagebrush, and rabbitbrush in November. The Tower Classic Trail winds up the slopes to a junction between the two hills.

Coming down from the Naked Pistol Trail, the route goes to another trailhead, but a single track trail veers off through the giant wildrye grass around the eastern side of Batchelor Hill.

The loop route continues south back to the trailhead area with a moderate single track trail.

This is a trail I hike in shoulder season in the fall and again in early spring. An interesting and moderate route for hikers.
