An Event in Autumn by Henning Mankell
An Event in Autumn is a novella in the Wallander series, Nordic noir crime stories by Henning Mankell. In this story Wallender is aging and wondering how to end his career as a detective and where he will live. He looks at a suitable home, but as we checks out the back yard, he finds a hand sticking up out of the ground. This is the second to last book in the series. The plot moves along slowly as he follows possible leads. The last part of the book is suspenseful and the author includes a number of interesting characters. Wallender is a bit of a train wreck when it comes to his personal life, lonely and despondent in this novel, but he rises to the challenge when he is on an investigation.
The Wallender series is set in Ystad, Sweden and all of the books have been translated to English. These crime novels have many followers and four series for television have also been popular. An Event in Autumn is one of 12 Wallander books, another solid story for mystery readers.
