Exiles by Jane Harper
Exiles was a book I tried to read once and put it down, then made a second attempt and enjoyed it a lot. It is the third book in the Aaron Falk series, all set in different areas of South Australia.
Although Falk is with the police, his job follows financial crime in Melbourne. When he visits friends in a small town, the mystery of a missing mother hangs over a festival a year later. In small steps, family members, friends, police, and Aaron piece together what happened. Intertwined friendships, past events, and small-town suspicion and hidden secrets are part of a network of relationships and past history, masterfully wound into the narrative. This is an immersive read, the best of Jane Harper’s books to date.
Recommended – 4.7 stars/5.
