Three Wanders
I hike different trails and routes each day. The amount of time and energy I have limits the choice and the weather forecast adjusts all potential plans for destinations and route choices. Paddling season is over so it is time to shift to a list of shoulder season hikes. Three of the recent hikes are shared here. … Continue reading →

At Lodgepole Lake
When the weather gets hot, I go to higher elevations and do shorter hikes or combine hiking and paddling. On this hot summer day I launched my kayak from the Lodgepole Lake Rec Site and then paddled around the lake, once in each direction. I then secured the boat and hiked single track trails nearby. It was an early start, … Continue reading →

The benchlands below Rose Hill and the west end of Juniper Ridge have long sloped ridges cut by gullies. The lands were once under Glacial Lake Kamloops. The ridges are consolidated silts, soft and prone to erosion. Sinkholes dot the landscape. There are some recent access roads for the upgraded powerlines that traverse the area. Access from above follows these … Continue reading →
Lava Point Hike

Fescue Loop
December saw little snowfall and the temperatures were mild so hiking season continued on. In most of our years we have had to do some “snow stomps”, hiking in snow, sometimes with traction devices, then we shift over to snowshoeing once the snow becomes deeper. This year we kept hiking the lower elevation trails. On this day, we hiked the … Continue reading →
Valleyview Nature Park Tracks
On a grey December day I started a 2 hour hike from Valleyview Arena, following the main trailhead up into the hills of Valleyview Nature Park. There was a bit of snow on the ground, but it was fine for hiking boots and a pole for stability. The route was a series of loops, across benchlands, gullies, and ridges. The … Continue reading →

Hiking the Ironmask Hills
We hiked the Ironmask Trails from the upper trailhead in late November. Since this is a well-used mountain biking area, we return to hike the trails in shoulder season and when the snow falls since many of the trails are single tracks and they can be busy with riders. On this day, we met a couple of other hikers, but … Continue reading →
