Kayaking Surrey Lake
Surrey Lake is located on the high plateau adjacent to the Surrey Summit on the Coquihalla Highway (4600 ft). Access is on good backroads – Meadow Creek Road (Logan Lake) > Surrey Lake Forest Service Road > Surrey Resort Road > Surrey Sussex Branch Road. The Surrey Lake Resort has been sold and is now privately owned, but the narrow gravel road that goes around the lake is still okay for summer use. There is no Rec Site, nor any public boat launch, but there are a couple of smaller hand launch spots on the northwest side of the lake. These spots are not well-known, and on a weekday it is very unlikely we might spot another user at these spots, nor any other boats on the lake.

The hand launch that I use is a short distance from the resort and there is room for one or two vehicles and a small launch area, all fine for my needs.

There was some wind, but I paddled downwind to the south end of the lake quickly, then came back up the lake more slowly, into a headwind and continuous waves. Even the ducks were hiding out of the windy conditions.

It was calmer in the large shallow bay on the east side. I paddled around the shoreline of the lake for about 4 km.
I enjoy kayaking on Surrey Lake in the summer and I hope to return to paddle nearby Sussex Lake another day.
