End of the Paddling Season
At the end of the paddling season, things began to change. The weather became cool, a series of storms came through the Interior, and I caught a cold. From the 78th day of paddling to the 79th day, there was a gap of a week, then the week after, another gap. In 2024, the last day of kayaking was Nov. 4th. Once I have recovered, I may be able to get out 1-4 more days, pending favorable conditions.
In the last days of paddling in October, I had excellent kayaking on Lac le Jeune, Stake Lake, Edith Lake, Paul Lake, and Paul Lake. There were no paddlers out on these days, but there were a few fishermen. Loons and ducks were still on the lakes, raptors still perched and flew over the lakes, and I had great views of a beaver on the shore and in the river. Fall color started to ring the shorelines. The lakes and the river were quiet. On the other hand, a couple of days were in the 2-4 degrees Celsius range, a recipe for cold hands (I have ordered some better gloves).
A few images are shared here in a Google Photos Album – End of the Paddling Season.
Note – I paddled the river on Nov. 3 and may still find a reasonable day to get out again…
