McConnell Lake Trail
On a grey and drizzly morning I drove up the Lac le Jeune Road to McConnell Lake. It had rained all night in town and rain clouds still hovered of the area. As I hiked around the lake, it rained lightly. It was a quiet morning for this 3.5 km route. An eagle was perched on a tree on an island. A pileated woodpecker climbed a snag. Loons called across the lake. Wildflowers were in bloom. This is a fine hike, especially when all is quiet.

The McConnell Lake Trail is a popular hike for walkers, hikers, and dog walkers. It is busy on weekends, holidays, and at prime times. The trail has some rocky and rooty sections so care is needed. There are some older Douglas fir trees, some areas of lodgepole pine, and some mixed forest in damp soils.
