Kayaking Saul Lake
It is a longer drive on gravel roads to get to Saul and Tranquille Lakes. I have been to Tranquille Lake four times, passing Saul Lake on the Sawmill Lake Road on three of these days. On one trip I drove to Tranquille Lake and paddled around the lake, then drive back to Saul Lake and paddled it too. There is a signed turn off the Sawmill Lake Forest Service Road to the small Rec Site on the western shore of Saul Lake at 1470m elevation (4800+ feet). I launched there and paddled the lakeshore.
The southeastern end of the lake is marshy with lily pads and aquatic vegetation filling in the bays.
The northwestern part of the lake has more open water for fishing and paddling. The outlet for the lake is at the western end. Saul Creek flows for 4 km west into Tranquille River.
Saul Lake is a nice lake to paddle (3 km around), but its a long way out, so it can be combined with another lake, like Tranquille Lake or Red Lake.
