Kayaking Scuitto Lake
Scuitto Lake is located in the Campbell Range area southeast of Kamloops and is accessed by the gravel Scuitto Lake Road from Barnhartvale. The road continues on to Campbell Lake. To launch a kayak onto Scuitto Lake we can use one of two boat launches on the north side of the lake. There is a BC Rec Site nearby. On this day, the lake was quite low from years of drought, a dry spring-summer, and summer draw down. The launch spot had shallow water and lots of rocks so it was better to launch in the muddy shallows a few meters to the east.

On this day there were light winds out of the southwest. It was better to paddle a ways out from the shallow shoreline of the lake. There are a number of hazards to avoid (logs, rocks, stumps, and aquatic vegetation.

Paddling the lake took about 70 minutes. There were some fishing boats, jumping trout, ducks with ducklings, killdeer on the shoreline, and few campers in the Rec Site.

Scuitto is one of a group of favorites for kayaking, but conditions are better in spring (note to self). As the paddle finished, Mt. Vicars rose above the lake, inviting another hike to the top, possibly in the fall.
