After a day of smoky conditions the morning cleared up and it was even clearer in the high forest at 4600 feet.     I returned to hike trails I have done before, snowshoeing or summer hiking.    From the campground at the Lodgepole Lake Recreation Site, I followed a signed trail down to the Lily Pond.     This was a narrow trail through the forest down to and along the edge of the marshy pond.    There is a crossing at the end of the trail, but I chose to backtrack and go up a trail through the lodgepole pine forest toward the lake.   Following signs I hiked the Crossover Trail then the Lower Lake Trail around Lodgepole Lake.

On a weekday morning there was no one else on the trail.    Wildflowers were in bloom and birds were singing.   I spotted a bird and used the Merlin app to identify a ruby crowned kinglet:

I took my time on the hike, enjoying the forest, the pond, and the lake, hiking for about 3.6 km.   Some photos taken along the way are shared here in a Google Photos album.    Click the link for captions.
