The Mt. Embleton Trail system started as a combination of old logging roads and tracks that went around grazing fences.     A local Heffley Creek resident, Tony Embleton worked to make the trails into a recreational opportunity and over the years, a 9.5 km network of recreational trails was established with parking and signage, now part of BC Rec Sites and Trails.   Many users park at the bottom since the road to the upper parking lot is a bumpy one.    We drove to the upper parking lot to reduce the uphill section on the road.   Our route was up the Fenceline Trail to  the Pine Loop and a break at the lookout, then down the Skyline Trail and back on the Old Mills Trail.

Some of the old double tracks were established for logging and we can still see old piles of wood waste heaped in piles below the hill at various spots.   

The highlight is the Skyline Trail which goes along a ridge above bluffs.     From several vantages, we have good views down to Heffley Lake and the forested slopes of Mt. Lolo beyond.     Going down that trail requires some care since it is narrow and slippery underfoot.    We went down slowly without incidents.   Some hikers prefer to do the loop in reverse, going up the steep sections of the Skyline Trail.

We hike the trails every year and have been doing that for about 48 years and plan to return again for a few more hikes on the Embleton Trails.
