Paddle Battle
On a late summer day, I hauled my kayak down the trail from the parking area for Cooney Bay to the rivershore. Getting a longer kayak down to the beach is difficult with so many logs on the path and then mud down by the shoreline. I would probably kayak Kamloops Lake more often, but limited access discourages more frequent access. I paddled Kamloops Lake from Savona in the spring and I sometimes pay a launch fee at Tobiano, but I am more likely to paddle the river from a boat launch or a local lake. On this recent outing, the lake was calm and it was a sunny day.

I paddled downriver to Cooney Bay, then down the shoreline under the rocky bluffs to Battle Bluff.

There were gulls, eagles, loons, and one pelican on the water as I paddled out and back.

When the lake is very calm, the reflections of the rockface in the water is like an optical illusion.

For many years there has been a plan to create a park for public access to Cooney Bay. It may not happen in my lifetime, so I will be hauling my kayak down to the shoreline once or twice each year.
