Ruffed Grouse Loop
The forecast was for snow and rain, but the weather and mild was grey, but fine for hiking. I started my winter hike at the Pacific Way Trailhead and followed a series of trails – Upper Doc Findlay, Owl’s Perch, Ruffed Grouse, North Vista, and Upper Doug Daws for a 1.75 hour hike using microspikes. Some of the narrower sidehill trails were not as well-stomped-in, but with careful progress, the whole route was quite hikeable.
From Owl’s Perch and North Vista are a number of viewpoints overlooking the valley and the hills to the northeast.
I took some short side trails to explore a bit and came across this old cabin.
There are many trail combinations that can be hiked in winter. Using good winter hiking boots and microspikes, we can explore them all.
