Minus 22 Hike

Ironmask Hills

The temperature on this day was -15º C and the wind was blowing at 20 km (for a wind chill of -22 to -24º C), but I bundled up, then went out for a hike in the hills, keeping the total time on the trails to about an hour.    I wore my microspikes and kept a brisk pace along a series of stomped-in trails.    This was a loop route up the hill, across some open spots with viewpoints, then down a steep single track to the start.

When you choose to hike every day, you need to have the right gear for more difficult conditions.     I had layers on top and bottom.    The only cold spot was my nose, and that was only for the first 15 minutes.

In the forest the winds were less harsh.    It was a cold start, but as long as I kept moving I was fine.    A few more days of the cold temperatures will have to be endured, but I will continue to hike, snowshoe, or play tennis every day.

Still rambling…
