Kayaking Dunn Lake

Ramble On Posted on 2025-08-06 by D. Smith2025-07-25

Dunn Lake is located near Little Fort in a valley on the west side of the Dunn Range, under Baldy Mountain.    We can get there from Barriere or Clearwater on gravel roads, but the shortest route is to take the reaction ferry at Little Fort then drive the Windpass – Dunn Lake Road to the end of Dunn Lake.    There is a small Rec site at the north end of the lake.

We launched our boats off a gravel beach and paddled south.

Steep forested slopes border the lake on both the west and the east side.

A paddle around the whole lake is about 10 km, about 3 hours of kayaking.

When we last paddled the lake, there were no other boats on the lake and it was quiet and peaceful.   It is a 96 km drive to the lake, but well worth our time and effort.
