Kayaking Leighton Lake

On a hot summer morning I drove up into Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park, then over to the Leighton Lake Campground and boat launch.     I paddled the lakeshore (3.5 km), then secured the boat and put on my hiking boots for a 4.5 km hike on the Leighton Lake Trail.

By late summer the lake is lower from evaporation and from draw down.     the shallow bays have lots of aquatic vegetation and some algae, but the water is clearer in deeper water.

There are some private cabins on the east shore, but most of the lakeshore is in the Provincial Park.

By the end of summer there are less fishermen and campers at/on the lake so a morning paddle is a usually a quiet time of steady paddling.    Another favorite.
