Lineham Ridge Hike

Ramble On Posted on 2026-06-16 by D. Smith2026-06-06

We camped at Waterton Lakes National Park and day-hiked several trails, including Crypt Lake, Lineham Ridge, Bertha Lake, and sections of the Great Divide Trail.     We hiked up to Mt. Lineham via Lineham Ridge in good weather.    The trail starts off the Akamina Parkway.    The Rowe Creek Trail is also a leg of the Great Divide Trail (GDT).    It winds up the valley for about 5 km before it starts to zig-zag up the col to the top of the ridge.    Once on top, hikers can turn left and hike to Mt. Hawkins, or left then left again to continue on the GDT.   The turn to the right follows the spine of Lineham Ridge to the summit (8950 ft).

For this day we hiked to high on the ridge and back on the same trail, choosing not to visit the lakes.     The entire hike was about 16 km,  a longer day of hiking, but we wished we had gotten an earlier start so we could include the summit and a visit to the lakes.    This hike and a few others in the area are on our “bucket list” for a return visit to Waterton.

From this hike a few images are shared here in a Google Photos album (with captions) – link – Lineham Ridge Trail

Shared here is an embedded slideshow of the photos:

Looking at these photos makes me want to return again in 2026…

Crypt Lake Hike

Ramble On Posted on 2026-01-16 by D. Smith2026-01-16

We camped at Waterton by the lakeside and hiked trails each day in Waterton National Park.    One of the hikes we did was Crypt Lake.    To get to the trailhead, we had to book a ride on the ferry.    The ferry service leaves from the Marina and it takes 15 – 20 minutes to land at the trailhead on the far side of … Continue reading →
