Thacker Mountain Trail
We did a hiking tour of the Fraser Canyon to Hope. We first stopped at Lytton where we took the reaction ferry across the Fraser River and then drove up to the Stein Valley trailhead. We hiked up the Stein River and back. We continued our journey and stayed overnight in Boston Bar. the next morning we stopped to hike down to and across the Alexandra Bridge and back. We stopped in Hope and chose to hike the Thacker Mountain Trails. The hill stands on the northeast side of Hope, overlooking the confluence of the Coquihalla River and the Fraser River on one side and over Kawkawa Lake on the east side. We went up the Thacker Mountain Road and parked at the trailhead. The route starts by climbing a gravel access road (used to service communications towers on top). Single track trails follow the rim of the hill and wind through the forest. There are several lookouts along the way, including the view looking west over the golf course, the confluence, and the Fraser River Valley.

Another viewpoint looks down to Kawkawa Lake with the Cascades standing high to the east.

The trails are in a Coastal forest zone with lots of old growth. We went around two small marshes and some sunny glades. Wildflowers were spotted along the route on this 4.7 km hike.

We were pleased to hike the Thacker Mountain Trails and recommend them to other hikers passing through Hope. See A Wildflower Journal for wildflowers spotted on this hike.
