Alexandra Bridge
We went down the Fraser Canyon for a hiking tour, hiking the Stein River in the morning, overnighting in Boston Bar, then stopping to hike the trail down to and across the Alexandra Bridge. In the afternoon we drove to Hope then hiked the Thacker Mountain Trail.
Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park has no vehicle access (parking) in winter and was not scheduled to open until May, but hikers can park off the highway and hike down and back. We hiked down on trails and on the old road (the former highway). We crossed the steel suspension bridge and enjoyed the views up and down the river (Spuzzum and new bridge is 2 km south). It is possible to hike across the bridge and continue old tracks down to Spuzzum Creek, then back along the highway, but not recommended.

The Fraser River was fast-flowing, muddy, and turbulent. The bridge floor has open grating so anything dropped will fall into the river, far below.

We hiked across the bridge explored the old Cariboo Wagon Road Track on the west side, then retraced our steps.

The original suspension bridge was built in 1862. It was a toll bridge allowing gold miners to cross the river, heading north to the gold rush. From Archives:
We enjoyed the information provided near the parking area, before going south across the new bridge to Spuzzum, then south to Hope.
