Kayaking Paska Lake
At the end of May, the forecast called for windy conditions in Kamloops, but a little better higher in the hills so I headed up the Lac le Jeune Road and continued onto the Logan Lake Road, then turned onto the Paska Lake Road. The best launch spot is in the Rec Site. I unloaded by boat and parked by the washrooms. The winds were out of the southwest so I started a clockwise loop route around the lake.
There is a long marsh channel at the west end of the lake. We can kayak it, out-and-back, in spring. By summer the water becomes too low and the aquatic vegetation fills the channel. There were already some yellow water lilies blooming in the channel and a loon was diving in the bay. This channel is actually the outlet for the lake, becoming Greenstone Creek, flowing south to Meadow Creek.
I paddled around the forested shoreline of the lake. It was quicker going downwind. At the east end are a few summer cabins on the north side, part of the Mile High neighborhood. The inlet stream is there, flowing from Face Lake, all part of the drainage off Chuwhels Mountain.
I completed the 4.4 km paddle paddling into the wind. It took just over an hour. On a calmer day I might have paddled another half loop, but I was happy to get out to kayak and I planned another one for the next day.
