Natural Bridge and Triple Decker Falls
The Clearwater River Trail connects Clearwater (by Dutch Lake) to Triple Decker Falls on Candle Creek. This trail is 8 km long and can be hiked either way, but since most of the attractions are at the upper end of the trail, we usually start from the Triple Decker Falls Trailhead. There is a good parking area and a new trailhead sign. The trail enters the forest near the Candle Creek Bridge. After a short downhill hike, a side trail leads to the foot of Triple Decker Falls.
From the falls, we hiked back to the main trail then continue downhill. At about 1.5 km is a signed junction. A faint trail wind over to the Natural Bridge.
The rock bridge spans Granite Canyon, high above the Clearwater River.
We returned to the main trail and hiked down to Osprey Lookout, with a series of views up and down Clearwater River.
We continued down to the Clearwater River Trail to a bridge across Candle Creek. A short way upstream (using a narrow rough trail) is Candle Creek Falls.
On this day we continued farther downriver to see the sheer lava cliffs
We returned back the way we came, skipping the side trails for a 5.5 km hike. The route has steep sections, but there is lots to see so this is a recommended hike off the Wells Gray Corridor Road.
