A hand launch site is located next to the trailhead into the park. I paddled up the lake along the north shoreline past Gibraltar Rock, then back on the same shore for a 5 … Continue reading →
On a mild day with calm conditions, I drove down Highway 5A South to Trapp Lake for a second day of paddling, this time around the north end of the lake. Trapp Lake is a good spot for early spring paddling since the lake is ice-free early and there is some protection from seasonal winds. This lake is a muddy, alkaline lake though so it … Continue reading →
At the end of March some of the lower elevation lakes became ice-free. Some of the larger valley-bottom lakes had been clear for a few weeks, but large lakes and strong winds are not a good combination in cool temperatures, so I paddled on the river instead. From the 78th day of paddling to the 79th day, there was a gap of a week, then the week after, another gap. In 2024, the last day of kayaking was Nov. 4th. Once I have … Continue reading →
On an October morning, I chose to do three loops of paddling and hiking at Stake Lake. Conditions were cool and cloudy at the start as I paddled around the lakeshore. On the second loop, the skies cleared and the wind was lighter. after paddling twice around the lake, I secured the kayak on the rack, then went out for a loop route on … Continue reading →
On the first day of October I drove out to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park and parked at the boat launch. I kayaked out onto Shuswap Lake with a loop around Copper Island in mind. Last year in spring I had paddled to the east side of the lake, landed and secured the boat, then I hiked around the island before paddling back. This time I … Continue reading →
